India’s groundwater report · CGWB 2024
How safe is the water where you live?
Government lab tests of groundwater in every state (Central Ground Water Board, 2024): the water that reaches homes before any purifier. Tap a state to see what’s in it.
These ratings describe untreated groundwater, not Native purifiers.
Tap a state to see its contaminants. Drag to rotate.

How to read this
Every sample in the state is within the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) drinking-water limits.
At least one contaminant is over its BIS limit in the state’s samples.
Rated severe by the CGWB, with a contaminant over its limit in more than 15% of 100 or more samples.
The CGWB report has no samples for the state.
Water quality: Central Ground Water Board, Annual Ground Water Quality Report 2024. TDS with Native: the average total dissolved solids going into and coming out of Native purifiers in each state. TDS alone doesn’t show whether water is safe: water with low TDS can still carry nitrate, uranium or arsenic.
