She arrived late but was in rush to complete the makeup before time. Plus she doesn’t know how to do a decent makeup. I gave her all my product but she insisted that everything can’t be done. I don’t understand what the point of booking if she can’t do normal makeup like blush bronzes highlighter. All of these are basic. Top of that for hair also she didn’t do anything extra for hair. It was just a punning that even I can do with my tools. I am disappointed with the service. I had to remove her makeup and do it again. Waste of my money

Good result. Could be little better. Idk if it is the products or technique but my under eye was very cakey and in 3 hours my eye makeup was smudged in my event. Hair was fine but didn't really hold even after spray

She was courteous, behaved very well and is quite talented in hair services. There are many elements of the services I liked. However, there are some things to work on. The hairstyle she did for me was a half bun half open hairstyle. Although I did suggest a half open hairstyle, I felt she shouldn’t have gone with the bun, as it is a hairstyle that suits someone with high volume of hair. The hairstyle looked good at first, but felt quite awkward later in the day. The finishing wasn’t really good, and the finishing was not very good. I also felt the service was very hurried, even though we had a lot of time. I finished touches of eye makeup after she left. I wouldn’t suggest booking her for a special day like engagement. Although she would be a good choice for a more casual event which doesn’t need this much consideration.

How to Prepare Before I Get My Makeup Done

You should also prepare a mini touch-up kit with pins, blotting paper, lipstick, moisturiser, foundation and concealer to touch-up at the venue if you need to.

Find photos of makeup and hairstyles you like for reference - to share with your party MUA so that they can easily understand your preferences. However, do trust them to know what style will suit your skin type and face shape as well, plus complement your outfit.

If you’re having your saree or dupatta draped, do find reference photos of the draping style you want as well.

Keep your face moisturised as it helps the makeup to go on smoothly and primes the face so that the makeup doesn’t look cakey (dry skin equals flaking makeup)

Find a button down shirt or top to wear (and put your blouse on beforehand) so that you don’t ruin your makeup and hair when you’re changing.

If you’re getting ready at the venue, ensure your packed your outfit, jewellery, footwear and button down shirt before you leave the house.

If you have a favourite lipstick or any other makeup product you love, carry it along so that the MUA can use it on you.

Do NOT get a facial done in the 1-2 days before your makeup session as one should not get makeup done immediately after that.

How to get the most out of your Party Makeup Artist Booking

While the makeup artist is getting you ready, feel free to share any worries you might have. Don’t wait till everything is done and then say what you wanted because it’s easier for the MUA to change or fix something as she goes. You most likely will not have time to get it redone later.

Talk about your preferences with your makeup artist - show her photographs of what you like.

Ensure the base matches your skin tone.

Finally, you can ensure your kajal stays on for longer by using a cotton bud to dry your waterline before applying kajal. And ensure primer is applied on your face and over the eyelids before the makeup goes on to help it last longer.

Check for dry patches where the makeup is flaking. If there are any, ask the MUA to gently dab moisturiser on the area and correct it.

If the makeup does not meet your expectations, go ahead and ask the makeup artist to either tone it down or make it bolder.

Check if blemishes, acne marks and pimples are covered to your satisfaction. However, do understand that it’s not possible to completely cover them without making it look unnatural.

Click a photo and check how the makeup is looking on camera - in both natural and artificial lighting.

Check that the colour of your face, neck and back are the same. If not, remind the MUA to apply foundation on all exposed skin.

For your hairstyle, it’s important to take note of your comfort level. If a pin is tugging and uncomfortable, tell your hairstylist so that they can move the pins around.

For sari draping, do the same thing and move around to check that the pleats don’t open and that it’s easy to sit and stand without opening up the sari.
