I had a very poor and unprofessional experience with the laptop service provider assigned to me. The technician arrived late — which we willingly excused due to his personal reason — but the real issues began after that. He did not even know how to start a laptop when the power button is non-functional. He repeatedly called his friend to ask how to start the laptop, where to connect wires, and how to diagnose the issue. Instead of checking the actual problem, he incorrectly claimed that: 1. the internal component connected to the power button was broken, 2. the motherboard was not working, and 3. the laptop was “dead.” He said he would need to take the laptop with him and that it would cost ₹5,000–₹6,000 just to start it, after which he would “tell me the real issues.” This was shocking because my laptop only had a broken power button. Later, I got the laptop checked at another service centre, and the entire issue was resolved in ₹600. There was no motherboard problem and the laptop was completely fine. Another concerning incident — when we politely refused further service and said we wanted a second opinion, he became agitated and extremely pushy. He kept insisting that only he could fix it and warned that other service centres would “mislead and overcharge” us. He even made us speak to his friends/partners over the phone to pressure us into giving him the job. His behaviour was forceful and very uncomfortable. Overall, this experience felt like a clear attempt to misguide and overcharge a customer who simply needed honest technical help. UrbanClap should ensure proper verification and training of service professionals, especially when trust and safety are involved.
