The new promises a new era for companies- one with more milestones and achievements. And as we enter it, the strategies are in place for the same. After the holiday lull comes the robust brainstorming sessions of pulling up our socks.  Of all the strategies that come into play, the importance of digital marketing has taken precedence over all. After all, it is the digital era.

Your business is eagerly looking at novel ideas for digital marketing. Whether you have a strategy in place that needs a little more work or are starting completely from zero, here are some pointers that you need to understand before you begin:

1.Know your brand

Your vision needs to be defined clearly in your own brain before it gets communicated to the world. Figure out and find out the things which makes you different from your competitors. And what is the singular message that conveys the tone of your brand.

2.Find out the right channels

There are a plethora of communication channels to attract customers. Some known online/offline channels are, Facebook, Google, Email, SMS, Twitter, Instagram. SEO, Affiliation, Blogging, Digital PR, Offline Banners etc.  You may have the funds but not all of them make sense to your brand. For instance Facebook marketing does batter than Google for some businesses. For others may be Offline Channels works better, or perhaps just intelligent Email marketing. Find out the right channel for better conversion. One way to figure that out is to pen down your objectives and target market clearly.

3.Engage your customers

If you’re actively putting content across all your digital channels, you need to be prepared to respond to your customers. Take time to engage and build a subscriber base/ followers, ensuring your content and comments are all in-line with the tone of your brand. Always remember – you have to respond to every comment from your customer (positive or negative) & remove spams from the sections.

4.Study your competitors

Always track the marketing strategies of your competitors, Are they communicating their vision better? What they are doing? Also, any channel they’re not utilizing can be your chance to dominate that channel.

5.Think like a customer

What is your customer looking for? What kind of communication attracts them? What motivates them to use your product? What are the challenges they are facing, when using your product? You should think like a customer to solve these problems; you will get the right answer.

6.Customer’s journey

Once you have started answering the questions as a customer, it will be easier to figure why a customer would even come to you. Considering your competitors are trying to answer similar questions for the customer, mapping out the whole journey helps a great deal. Some questions to ponder on can be: What problems would drive them to find you? How would they find you? How many times would they need to visit you? Mapping out this journey allows you to identify the optimal times you can reach out to them.

7.Budget Plan

Some digital channels are more expensive than others, and some may have a better ROI (Return on investment). So find out the best channels and decide a budget accordingly. There’s no point paying an agency to manage your digital marketing if you can’t back it up with the appropriate spend. Similarly, it’s not worth investing in SEO if you can only afford to do so for a month or two.
