Hate to write a bad review for Urban clap ladies because they work so hard but this one was a nightmare. Booked makeup + hairstyle + saree draping for a sunset shoot , the lady arrived late and carried all unwashed and filthy brushes. I opted for my personal makeup products and she was not able to work with it. Result = makeup was horribly bad. That’s not enough, I told her to concentrate on hairstyle thinking I will correct my makeup myself… she did that too with so much bickering, every time you tell her to correctly do something she was just being defensive and saying this is how it’s done. I go 1 hour late anyways then what made situation unbearable was sari draping. Since I didn’t know anything I was completely depended on her , she wrapped a kanjiwaram sari like a dhoti and it made me cry . I told her to go and I will do whatever I can by myself. She started taking pictures of me saying she need to show it to company while I was wearing sari by myself. Thankfully someone from Urban clap called and asked her to leave . I cried and panicked and when I reached shoot location the sunset was gone and photographers already charged me for an hour. It was a total disaster and traumatic experience.

Make up was good but saree draping was very bad after a half hour saree got opened from some place. At the end I was wearing a lehenga. Very disappointing

How to Prepare Before I Get My Makeup Done

Find a button down shirt or top to wear (and put your blouse on beforehand) so that you don’t ruin your makeup and hair when you’re changing.

Do NOT get a facial done in the 1-2 days before your makeup session as one should not get makeup done immediately after that.

Find photos of makeup and hairstyles you like for reference - to share with your party MUA so that they can easily understand your preferences. However, do trust them to know what style will suit your skin type and face shape as well, plus complement your outfit.

You should also prepare a mini touch-up kit with pins, blotting paper, lipstick, moisturiser, foundation and concealer to touch-up at the venue if you need to.

If you have a favourite lipstick or any other makeup product you love, carry it along so that the MUA can use it on you.

Keep your face moisturised as it helps the makeup to go on smoothly and primes the face so that the makeup doesn’t look cakey (dry skin equals flaking makeup)

If you’re getting ready at the venue, ensure your packed your outfit, jewellery, footwear and button down shirt before you leave the house.

If you’re having your saree or dupatta draped, do find reference photos of the draping style you want as well.

How to get the most out of your Party Makeup Artist Booking

If the makeup does not meet your expectations, go ahead and ask the makeup artist to either tone it down or make it bolder.

Finally, you can ensure your kajal stays on for longer by using a cotton bud to dry your waterline before applying kajal. And ensure primer is applied on your face and over the eyelids before the makeup goes on to help it last longer.

Check for dry patches where the makeup is flaking. If there are any, ask the MUA to gently dab moisturiser on the area and correct it.

Talk about your preferences with your makeup artist - show her photographs of what you like.

Click a photo and check how the makeup is looking on camera - in both natural and artificial lighting.

Ensure the base matches your skin tone.

While the makeup artist is getting you ready, feel free to share any worries you might have. Don’t wait till everything is done and then say what you wanted because it’s easier for the MUA to change or fix something as she goes. You most likely will not have time to get it redone later.

Check if blemishes, acne marks and pimples are covered to your satisfaction. However, do understand that it’s not possible to completely cover them without making it look unnatural.

Feel free to tell your MUA what you don’t want. For example, you may not want eyelash extensions or a dramatic winged liner - just tell the artist it’s not something you like. She will respect your wishes.

Check that the colour of your face, neck and back are the same. If not, remind the MUA to apply foundation on all exposed skin.

What to check for in Hairstyle & Sari Draping

For your hairstyle, it’s important to take note of your comfort level. If a pin is tugging and uncomfortable, tell your hairstylist so that they can move the pins around.

Check if your hairstyle is holding up well and in place - move your head around to check it’s not opening up

For sari draping, do the same thing and move around to check that the pleats don’t open and that it’s easy to sit and stand without opening up the sari.
