I had booked service for my geyser which was producing noise when switched on. The service guy came and told me that the heating element had to be replaced and he sent me an estimate for the heating element for a geyser with a capacity of (30-50) liters, which I approved only to find it later that the capacity of the geyser was 10 liter. (I read the label on the geyser when the geyser was lying on the ground after uninstallation.) I reported it to the customer care and they told me that they have spoken to the service guy about it and I should make sure that the new heating element comes with a proper bill. I want to make an important point: UC does NOT maintain any inventory and just provides a rate card (sum of the cost for part to be replaced and service cost for repair), and it is up to the service guy to get the part from wherever he wants. The next day when the service guy came and I asked for the bill for the heating element, he told me that it will be provided to me by UC after I make the payment. I reluctantly went ahead with the installation as the geyser was lying uninstalled and opened. (The service guy had uninstalled and opened the geyser to remove the defective heating element.) After installation, I found out that the geyser was taking comparatively more time to heat the water than it was before indicating that the heating element was perhaps of less heating capacity. I shared my concern with the service guy but he said that it was all ok. After payment, i received an invoice from UC that just mentioned that I had paid the given amount for the heating element and no details about the make and quality of the heating element, which of course they cudn't because they don't maintain any inventory and the service guy had sourced the heating element locally. Another thing that I want to mention was that when i asked the service guy why the packaging for the heating element was open, he told me that he had to test the element before bringing it which I found to be a very flimsy reason. I had two options, one to cancel the service or go ahead with the installation. I chose the latter as I somehow did not want to stretch it further. I was probably overcharged by 500/- and don't know how long the heating element would last. To UC: You should start maintaining an inventory for items or find a way to save your customers from being cheated in such a way.
