I booked a basic professional make up for a simpler , subtle look .. as it suits my personality. It was my 10 th anniversary and I expected a perfect look but i was dissatisfied. She painted my face with a brush which looked caked and baked .. Inspite of telling her repetitively that I don’t want my eyebrows to be painted she kept on making it look bold and darker . The products she used was not as per your list and the spong and the brushes were dirty, used . I told her from the very start that I want a simple , no makeup look preferably but she turned me look bold , bright and dramatic. She needs to work according to the clients requirement and taste. I had to rub the makeup and my painted eyebrows and redo the entire thing . But I hv to mention she managed my hair well .i have a very thin hair for which I gave her a ready made bun i already had and she style my hair neatly. I had also booked a hair styling service for my mother in law where again she messed up . She is an aged lady and we had asked for a simple bun and hair style. She started perming her hair which my mother in law didn’t wanted , but the service was continued. My mother in law was so disappointed she opened her hair and did on her own for the function. Please look into matters like these and work on the improvisation . These disappointments affects your mood on your day when you really want to look good .

How to Prepare Before I Get My Makeup Done

You should also prepare a mini touch-up kit with pins, blotting paper, lipstick, moisturiser, foundation and concealer to touch-up at the venue if you need to.

Do NOT get a facial done in the 1-2 days before your makeup session as one should not get makeup done immediately after that.

Find a button down shirt or top to wear (and put your blouse on beforehand) so that you don’t ruin your makeup and hair when you’re changing.

If you’re getting ready at the venue, ensure your packed your outfit, jewellery, footwear and button down shirt before you leave the house.

If you’re having your saree or dupatta draped, do find reference photos of the draping style you want as well.

Find photos of makeup and hairstyles you like for reference - to share with your party MUA so that they can easily understand your preferences. However, do trust them to know what style will suit your skin type and face shape as well, plus complement your outfit.

Keep your face moisturised as it helps the makeup to go on smoothly and primes the face so that the makeup doesn’t look cakey (dry skin equals flaking makeup)

If you have a favourite lipstick or any other makeup product you love, carry it along so that the MUA can use it on you.

How to get the most out of your Party Makeup Artist Booking

Check for dry patches where the makeup is flaking. If there are any, ask the MUA to gently dab moisturiser on the area and correct it.

Feel free to tell your MUA what you don’t want. For example, you may not want eyelash extensions or a dramatic winged liner - just tell the artist it’s not something you like. She will respect your wishes.

If the makeup does not meet your expectations, go ahead and ask the makeup artist to either tone it down or make it bolder.

Finally, you can ensure your kajal stays on for longer by using a cotton bud to dry your waterline before applying kajal. And ensure primer is applied on your face and over the eyelids before the makeup goes on to help it last longer.

What to check for in Hairstyle & Sari Draping

For your hairstyle, it’s important to take note of your comfort level. If a pin is tugging and uncomfortable, tell your hairstylist so that they can move the pins around.

Check if your hairstyle is holding up well and in place - move your head around to check it’s not opening up

For sari draping, do the same thing and move around to check that the pleats don’t open and that it’s easy to sit and stand without opening up the sari.
