His polite behaviour and sincerity in explaining everything to clear all the doubts was outstanding! Dear Urban Company/UrbanClap Customer Care, I am writing to formally escalate my complaint regarding the extremely poor and unacceptable repair service provided by Urban Company for my Miele chimney, which has resulted in substantial financial damage to an expensive appliance. The chimney originally had an issue with its functioning. I therefore booked a service through Urban Company and your technician/executive visited my premises to inspect the appliance. After inspecting the chimney, your representative informed me that the motor was defective and that it would be replaced with an original Miele OEM motor. I agreed to the proposed repair solely on the clear understanding that a genuine Miele OEM component would be used. However, the motor subsequently supplied/installed was not a new genuine Miele OEM motor. I have now been informed that the motor is in fact a second-hand/substandard motor. This is completely contrary to what was represented to me at the time I authorised the repair. More seriously, during the intervention by Urban Company's technician, the electronic circuit board of the chimney has also been damaged. The appliance has therefore been left in a substantially worse condition than it was in before Urban Company's intervention. The compensation being offered is completely unacceptable Despite the above circumstances, Urban Company has offered me compensation of only ₹5,500 towards the entire damage. This is wholly inadequate and bears no reasonable relationship to the actual loss suffered. The approximate value of the damage is in excess of ₹1,00,000, including: Approximately ₹50,000 for the motor alone, based on the genuine Miele OEM replacement cost. Additional substantial cost towards the electronic circuit board, which I am in the process of having identified and valued through Miele. Consequential damage and the cost of restoring the chimney to its proper working condition. I have already shared with Urban Company the proforma invoice obtained from Miele OEM, which establishes the cost of the genuine replacement motor. Therefore, there should be no ambiguity regarding the actual cost of replacing the substandard second-hand motor with a genuine Miele component. I am also in the process of obtaining the identification and replacement cost of the damaged electronic circuit board from Miele, and I will provide that documentation as soon as it is available. This is not an ordinary unsuccessful repair I want to make it very clear that this matter is not simply a case of a technician being unable to repair an appliance. Your representative: Inspected my Miele chimney. Identified the motor as the problem. Represented that the motor would be replaced with a genuine Miele OEM motor. Obtained my approval on that understanding. Subsequently used/provided a second-hand and substandard motor. Caused further damage to the chimney, including damage to its electronic circuit board. Has now offered only ₹5,500 as compensation for the resulting damage. This raises very serious concerns regarding misrepresentation, deficiency in service and unfair/deceptive trade practices. The chimney is a premium Miele appliance with a value of approximately ₹2,25,000. It is, therefore, completely unreasonable for Urban Company to suggest that ₹5,500 is an adequate settlement for damage exceeding ₹1 lakh. My demand I therefore formally request Urban Company to: Withdraw the inadequate ₹5,500 compensation offer. Accept responsibility for the damage caused during its service intervention. Reimburse the cost of replacing the second-hand/substandard motor with a genuine Miele OEM motor, currently approximately ₹50,000, as supported by the Miele proforma invoice already shared with you. Bear the cost of replacing the damaged electronic circuit board, once the exact part and Miele's quotation are established. Bear any additional reasonable costs required to restore the chimney to the condition it was in prior to Urban Company's intervention. Provide a written explanation as to why a second-hand/substandard motor was supplied when I had expressly agreed to a genuine Miele OEM replacement. Based on the damage identified so far, my claim is in excess of ₹1,00,000, and the final amount will be established once Miele provides the quotation for the damaged circuit board. I am therefore giving Urban Company a final opportunity to resolve this matter fairly and amicably. Please escalate this complaint to a senior management/grievance officer and provide a substantive written response within 7 days. If Urban Company continues to offer an arbitrary amount such as ₹5,500 despite the documented cost of genuine Miele replacement parts and the damage caused during your service intervention, I will have no option but to pursue the matter through the appropriate consumer protection and legal forums, seeking the full cost of restoration, compensation for the damage caused, consequential losses, and costs incurred in pursuing the matter. I have retained the relevant documentation, including the Miele proforma invoice, service records and other evidence relating to the repair and subsequent damage. I expect Urban Company to treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves. Regards, Suresh Singh
