Urban Company and National Skill Development Corporation enter into a partnership on
World Youth Skills Day
The MOU recognizes Urban Company as a key strategic partner of the Skill India mission and will boost efforts to mobilize, train and certify service professionals across India.
National, July 15, 2019: On World Youth Skills Day, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Urban Company enter into a partnership to collaborate for the mobilization, training and certification of service professionals across India. The MoU signed between the two organisations also recognize Urban Company as a key strategic partner of the Skill India mission.
As a part of the MOU, NSDC will support Urban Company to become a 100 % Skill India certified organization under RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) component of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). Urban Company will also create micro-entrepreneurship opportunities for candidates already certified under PMKVY 2.0 and additionally train 30,000 new partners over next one year under short term skilling and upskilling programs.
Urban Company currently has more than 20,000 Individual Service Professionals (ISPs) working with the platform as micro-entrepreneurs across various services such as beauty (salon), spa, cleaning, plumbing, carpentry, appliance servicing & repair, painting etc. With these 20,000 partners Urban Company services close to a million customers every month across 10 cities in India.
Commenting on the partnership, Abhiraj Singh Bhal, Co- founder, Urban Company said, “Urban Company is committed to the vision of creating 1 million plus successful micro-entrepreneurs for India and contribute to the Skill India mission. NSDC, under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, is an implementing agency for several flagship programs under the Government of India i.e. Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) among others. It also catalyses international training and employment opportunities for Indian youth, through private sector collaboration.
Early this year, interim Finance Minister Piyush Goyal had said that creating job opportunities via skilling is a key part of the government’s agenda and 20 million “employment opportunities” are to be added over the next two years. Urban Company, with its training and upskilling programs is at the forefront in creating these jobs in India. The company foresees that in the next 4-5 years the market is going to run out of skilled supply and thus, itself contributes as a huge training player in the Indian economy.
