Last year, we adopted 5 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, one of which was Responsible Consumption and Production. As one of the leading home services platforms, we strive to make a significant environmental impact by empowering our customers to reduce their carbon footprint. In the last year, we have worked towards achievements in energy conservation, waste reduction, and greenhouse gas emissions prevention through our Home Repairs & Maintenance vertical, particularly in AC repair services.

Saving Energy, One Service at a Time

Energy conservation is crucial in combating climate change, and at Urban Company, we recognize the role we can play. In 2022 alone, our AC repair services contributed to saving a staggering 146 million units of energy through servicing. And the numbers keep growing! In the first five months of this year, we have already saved 117 million units, demonstrating our commitment to a sustainable future.

Preventing Waste, One Repair at a Time

Another aspect of sustainability is reducing waste and preventing valuable resources from ending up in landfills. In 2022, Urban Company’s Home & Maintenance vertical prevented over 2.5 million units of durable goods from becoming waste. This means that we were able to extend the lifespan of these items, reducing the demand for new products and ultimately minimizing environmental impact. In just the first few months of this year, we have already prevented 0.3 million units from ending up in landfills, showcasing our dedication to waste reduction.

Repair, not replace: Combating Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Greenhouse gas emissions, particularly CO2e emissions, are a significant contributor to climate change. By providing efficient and timely home repair and maintenance services, we have successfully prevented a staggering 1.2 billion CO2e GHG emissions through our Home Repairs and Maintenance vertical in 2022. This substantial achievement is a testament to the positive impact we can make by choosing to repair an appliance rather than replacing.
