If summer has already reduced you to a pool of sweat and grime, we have the perfect pick-me-up for you. Packed with ice and all things nice, our list of summer coolers is sure to help beat the soaring temperatures this summer:
Shikanji
Nothing quite like the classic desi shikanji. The Indian spices add a subtle twist to your regular lemonade and create an ideal refreshment in this heat. Combine the juice of lemons with some black salt, sugar and cumin powder. Top with water and leave to chill.
Blueberry Slushie
This icy drink promises to make you feel berry berry refreshed! Make your regular lemonade mix and then toss in a few frozen blueberries and ice to the mix. Blend till the ice is crushed and serve with a garnish of fresh mint leaves.
Melon, Cucumber and Mint Cooler
All 3 ingredients have a magical coolness to them that’s sure to help you beat the heat. Puree mint, melon and cucumber until smooth and then strain through a sieve. To the remaining liquid, add lime juice and a few slices of cucumber and mint leaves and serve it up.
Peach and Ginger cooler
Make a half and half pitcher of iced tea and ginger ale and then throw in a few slices of peaches to the mix. For added kick, grate a bit of ginger into the pitcher and leave to chill. Enjoy by the glassful!
Coconut, Lime and Pineapple Spritzer
Combine fresh coconut water with lemon juice and pineapple juice and leave to chill. Dilute with a bit of club soda to cut the sweetness and serve with a slice of pineapple in the glass. One sip and you’ll be transported to a beach vacation!
Watermelon Basil Spritzer
Using a herb always adds a delicious complexity to a regular fruit juice. Glam up your regular watermelon juice by adding in a few sprigs of fresh basil and a dash of lime juice. Your ammunition for the summer is ready!
Tropical Smoothie
Another sure way to feel tropical paradise! Blend mango, pineapple and banana with coconut milk and ice. You can even make this into a dessert by adding lesser liquid and leaving to chill in bowls instead of glasses.
Rose Coconut Cream Cooler
The gentle tastes of rosewater and coconut cream come together to create a wonderfully silken drink. Blend tender coconut cream with coconut water and a few drops of rose water and leave to chill. Garnish with a few rose petals when serving.
Go ahead and create your own delicious summer coolers this year. With an array of fresh fruits and herbs at your disposal – you can mix and match to create exciting flavour combinations.
