One of the biggest weddings of 2018 just wrapped up, and Deepika Padukone with her newly-minted husband, Ranveer Singh, did NOT disappoint. Their wedding photographs are gorgeous, and even though they’ve only released a handful on social media, it’s enough for us to already pick out ideas we want to steal!
UPDATE:
They’ve shared over a dozen photos since then, and we’ve got all the details!
So if you’re getting married in the next 12 months, get ready to bookmark!
But first, some wedding details
• Sabyasachi was present at the wedding to personally style the bride & groom! Yes, they were the quintessential Sabyasachi couple.
• The wedding festivities kicked off with a Nandi puja for the bride in Bengaluru and a haldi ceremony for the groom in Mumbai
• The destination took place in the beautiful and insanely expensive Villa del Balbianello at Lake Como, Italy.
• On 12th November 2018, a welcome dinner for the guests was followed by a ring exchange ceremony. The next day was the Sangeet & Mehendi (of which there are no photos out yet).
• On the morning of 14th November, the bride and groom had a Konkani wedding ceremony while 15th November was the Anand Karaj wedding following North Indian traditions.
Ideas To Steal from the DeepVeer Wedding!
1. Keep The Bridal Makeup & Hairstyle Simple
We love how celebrity brides are keeping it simple and natural (see
Anushka Sharma& [Neha Dhupia’s bridal looks](https://www.urbancompany.com/blog/weddings/wedding-fashion/neha-dhupia-wedding-bridal-looks/ "What Neha Dhupia Wore To Her Wedding: 3 Bridal Looks We Loved (Plus Styling Ideas!)")). Deepika did not wildly experiment with her hair and makeup, instead opting for signature “Deepika” looks.
2. New Trend Alert! Smokey Eye Makeup on The Bride
Deepika Padukone wore an intense smokey eye for her South Indian wedding ceremony, something most brides tend to shy away from on their wedding day! She pulled it off well, but your makeup artist will have to be very careful to ensure you don’t get panda eyes. In photos taken from a bit of a distance, it does look quite dark so pick this look after careful consideration!
It works well only if you stick to an earthy palette for your makeup.
3. The Perfect Bridal Makeup Style To Pair With Red Wedding Lehenga
For the North Indian Sindhi ceremony, Deepika wore a Matka silk red lehenga with a gold high neck blouse and double dupatta.
If you want to wear a red lehenga, please bookmark / pin / save Deepika’s Bridal Makeup look! The nude lips, slightest hint of blush and subtle brown & gold smokey eye with a clean base is wedding perfection.
4. Personalise Your Wedding Outfit With Little Details
You’ve probably heard of the love-story lehenga and sari, where brides are adding their love stories through visual motifs on their outfits. They’re also adding
favourite quotes & first date images on their bridal mehendi design. Deepika’s dupatta, with the prayer “Sada Subhagyawati Bhava” sewn onto the border, is yet another way to add an interesting detail to your wedding look.
5. Big _Maang Tikkas_ & Brides Accessorizing Heavily Are Here To Stay!
If you’ve been wondering whether a huge maang tikka_ is a trend that’s here to stay, Deepika’s choice says it IS. A simple, yet
large _Nathperfectly complements it.
She also added polki and gold chunky bracelets & a pacheli_ to her _chooda_ and _kaleerey_, plus differently shaped polki rings on all her fingers (instead of the typical _haath phool)! If you were hesitating to accessorize heavily on your wedding day, DP’s look says you have no reason to hold back.
For the Konkani wedding ceremony, Deepika wore a pure gold zari_ Kanjeevaram brocade silk sari (with a two-headed bird motif) bought from Bengaluru’s Angad Galleria, paired with South Indian jewellery (according to Bridelan’s founder, Nisha) –
guttapusalu, _jhumkas_ and a _Matha Patti.
This Matha Patti, in particular, is one of the most gorgeous designs we’ve ever seen and it’s a style we really love on brides.
7. Fearlessly stack those chunky bangles & _kadas_ together
Stack ’em like there’s no tomorrow! Paired with her Kanjeevaram sari, the bride looked resplendent, and gorgeously so.
Deepika added a traditional kappu style gold bracelet at the end of her stack (the one with lions at the clasp)
So don’t be afraid to go all out and stack lots of chunky bangles, bracelets and kadas together. Just make sure they’re colour coordinated. Deepika kept everything in gold, reds, greens with a hint of white polki.
8. You Can Go All Out In Your Bridal Attire, On Your Mehendi Too!
Brides typically tone it down for their Mehendi ceremony, but when you’re Deepika Padukone and your entire family is dressed in Sabyasachi, you go all out on this function too!
Point is – if you want to look all “extra bridal” on your Mehendi, go for it. DP says – why not?!
9. A Simple Chaadar for Bridal Entry
While we love a
beautiful phoolon ki chaadar designoverflowing with gorgeous blooms, Deepika kept it simple by entering under a colour-coordinated red dupatta as a chaadar.
10. Give The Groom’s Mehendi Design Some Meaning
Most grooms opt for super simple mehendi designs, and we loved how Ranveer didn’t do the typical “I’ll just have my bride’s name written”. Instead, he got her name’s meaning illustrated on his palm instead!
He got a “Deepak” made on his hand. Get it?
11. Grooms Can Wear Head To Toe Red Too!
Ranveer Singh did not hold back on his wedding day, and for the North Indian wedding, his outfit looked just as luxurious and decadent as the bride. But he pulled it off so well!
It goes to show that grooms can wear a red and gold brocade sherwani with a bright embroidered stole (almost like a bride’s dupatta!), multiple strings of beads and polki AND a
striped safa, and still look phenomenally good!
12. How To Style A Red Sherwani The Right Way
While Ranveer’s outfit had heavy doses of gold and red, traditionally bridal colours, there were subdued elements that kept his outfit from looking OTT.
Two Prints? Yes, you can!
He went for 2 prints (striped safa, motifs on sherwani) but they both were NOT embroidered. More safa design ideas.
Jewellery That Balances The Look
He layered the single-string Polki necklace (the most eye-catching part of his entire look) with multiple strings of deep maroon beads that added only a textural element to the look and nothing more.
Heavy Dupatta To Add Depth To The Look
The groom’s stole was embroidered with gold, and the border was completely golden as well. This helped add another layer of texture to uplift the whole outfit.
13. Grooms Should Follow Their Natural Style While Picking Wedding Outfits
We’ve been saying this for brides for years, but it’s time someone said it for the grooms too – stick to the style that feels most natural to you. Ranveer likes loud, statement-making outfits and so he picked his North Indian wedding attire accordingly. He also pulled off an Anarkali style kurta with a stylish open jacket for his Mehendi ceremony.
If you’re someone who normally loves bright colours, go for it for your wedding functions! And if you like to keep it simple, you’ll feel much more at ease if you pick that self-print ivory sherwani over one with contrasting embroidery. Do YOU, grooms!
14. Don’t Shy Away From Coordinating Bride & Groom’s Outfits In The Same Colours (AND Coordinating On All Functions!)
Both Deepika & Ranveer wore red and gold, and the pair looked beautiful together!
They further pulled their looks together with a matching gold border on both the bride’s dupatta and the groom’s stole.
In fact, they coordinated their looks on every single function!

They even coordinated their looks at Grih Pravesh back home in the Mumbai!
Bookmark this as an idea of what to wear on your first day as newlyweds.
15. Choose Simple Bridal Outfits (without embroidery) for Smaller Functions like Pujas
For the pre-wedding Nandi Puja in Bengaluru, Deepika wore a simple Sabyasachi kurti in a bright orange and rich fabric.
For smaller functions like a pooja, it’s nice for the bride to stick to a simple outfit that gives a wedding feel because of the rich fabric (think Chanderi, silk, organza) and bright colour. Of course, adding large earrings makes it a classic bridal look, without being over the top.
16. Daytime weddings make for the BEST wedding photographs!
While their wedding ceremonies may have taken place during daytime hours for different reasons, the fact remains – photographs look surreal and extra gorgeous when they’re during sunlit hours. If there’s one wedding decision you make that will, guaranteed, give you beautiful photos, it’s this – have a morning wedding!
Just look at how stunning the photos have turned out with the sun providing beautiful light!
17. Wedding Gifts? Ask Guests To Donate To A Charitable Cause
Deepika & Ranveer kept a no-gifts policy, and instead asked their guests to donate to Deepika’s Live Love Laugh foundation. If you’re considering asking guests for “[Blessings Only](https://www.urbancompany.com/blog/weddings/invitation-card-wordings-guide-rsvp-compliments-gifts/ "Wedding Invite Wordings Guide: RSVP, Compliments & Gifts (With Examples From Real Wedding Cards!)")“, consider directing them to one or two charities that you like. Indian guests feel awkward about not gifting couples anything, so this way it’s a win-win for both parties!
18. Solitaire _Mangalsutras_!
Mangalsutras are not particularly beautiful pieces of jewellery, but they’re important ones. We LOVED the single solitaire hanging at the end of the traditional _mangalsutra thread that Deepika Padukone is wearing. It looks so much nicer than the usual design.
We hope you can pass on this photo to your fiance so he gets a design hint!
