Services priced much higher than the market

Day 1 - The work was supposed to start on Thursday, Ramnath came a day early last Wednesday with a young chap as labor. The young man sat for 5 hours till Ramnath got the material. This was the foundation of him feeling like he was not making sufficient money on the project because "the first day was wasted". This is not my mistake or my responsibility. This is my first experience with UC furniture making. I had thought he was the worker and not a contractor, and sorely regret giving the project to him. No one takes 5 hours to buy a couple of boards and 2 sheets of mica, and some hardware. I could have easily directed him to my neighborhood store if he wasn't finishing other site visits while the young man did nothing, and perhaps worse by way of watching weird videos. I transferred a total of 13000INR to him, so I could not cancel the job either. Day 2 - The young man should not have been left unsupervised. He messed up expensive wood and sunmica, and since Ramnath was so disorganized and flitting between sites, all my instructions were lost and endless time and material was wasted in redoing things. The project is incomplete because the laminates were cut without any thought and we ran out. The rant about not enough money was quite repetitive even though I had agreed to the amount he quoted without any haggling or negotiation. Furthermore, I reduced some of the work. But as I would discover, greed has no limits Day 3 - He got better workers and they did the best they could to salvage the young man's mess. I reduced the paint work in my cabinet but the labor cost savings were not enough for him. I requested Ramnath to return the money for the paint material. He looked me in the eye and said that he had taken only the paint and lacquer cans. He has no trouble lying. Later when we needed thinner to clean the Heatex, he said he had taken the thinner too. He owes me 760/- for the material. Day 3 workers were decent, but it was beneath them to clean up. Kindly help me retrieve the 760/- for the material he took. I will have to find another person for the pending work. Because he came a day early I could not find the time to go buy handles for which I will have to pay another carpenter separately.
