The biggest wedding of the year is finally over, or as somebody jokingly said – Sabyasachi’s biggest marketing campaign yet came to an end. Everyone loved Virat Kohli & Anushka Sharma’s intimate Italian wedding (we can’t get over how gorgeous the couple looked!) and December 2017 will forever be remembered as the month of #Virushka.
Once they returned to India after their honeymoon, they threw 2 wedding receptions -one in Delhi & the other in Mumbai. After the tight-knit destination wedding, the receptions were grand and the guest list, as expected, included the biggest Bollywood stars and cricketers in the country. From Aishwarya Rai to Katrina Kaif, all the A-listers showed up in fabulous wedding outfits.
We picked the best dressed of the night to give you some major fashion inspiration for the next wedding you attend. There was something for everyone – from the bridesmaid to the bride herself and even the groom’s brothers and friends!
First up on the best dressed list – the bride & the groom!
The couple continued their Sabyasachi wedding outfit spree with a red benarsi saree and black silk bandhgala from the house of Sabyasachi.
In the words of Sabya himself,
“…much to my absolute delight, it would be a red Benarasi saree…I have seen an entire generation of Bengali women getting married in red Benarasi sarees. The red bindi, the sindoor and the mogras in her hair just made the look more potent and powerful. She chose to wear heritage uncut diamond choker and jhumkas from the Sabyasachi Bridal Jewelry collection.
Bollywood can play a major role in spreading awareness about Indian textiles…I know copies of this saree will flood the entire country…which also means that a million weaver’s children will be back at school. All I can say is thank you Anushka!”
And this is what he had to say about the groom’s sartorial pick –
“Virat chose to complement his new bride in a very subtle and elegant manner. He wore a black textured silk signature bandhgala with the house buttons in 18k gold and a white silk kurta with hand-woven brocade churidaar. He teamed it with mojris from the Sabyasachi accessories line and a hand-embroidered antique Pashmina shawl from our ‘Kashmir Revival’ project.”
While we loved the red sari, the entire look has a very strong traditional vibe. We would’ve loved to see Anushka style the traditional sari in a modern way. It would’ve given us millennials ideas on how to make this now-trending-again fabric work for us. But as things stand, this is the one bridal look we won’t be replicating as it is.
We loved her grey & silver Sabyasachi lehenga! It’s perfect for a bride’s reception.

And Virat cutely complemented her in his Raghavendra Rathore jacket & trousers. And yes, this was the ONLY outfit in the entire wedding that was NOT a Sabyasachi!

The two receptions were almost like a fashion show with so much wedding fashion inspiration! And by the looks of it, greys, ivories and softer shades will continue to rule 2018.
Although mermaid style lehengas have long been out of fashion, the cold-shoulder blouse and the pastel blue palette in a metallic finish are gorgeous on her complexion!
The elegant sari, the full-sleeve blouse (a saviour for those attending winter weddings), the choker and the beautiful hairstyle with flowers – everything about her look was spot on.
Our favourite outfit of the night! The blue brocade lehenga by Manish Malhotra is an absolute beauty. The cold shoulder blouse design paired with a chunky Kundan choker makes it perfect for a bridesmaid.
A beautifully embroidered ensemble with thread work looked rather stunning on Aishwarya. This graceful outfit fits perfectly for someone looking for their dreamy reception dress.
The beige lehenga by Falguni & Shane Peacock was styled with side-swept curls and is a gorgeous look for a sister of the bride/groom!
For someone who loves to do what KJo does, this look is for you!
This sari combines 3 of the hottest wedding fashion trends in a single look – fringes, off-shoulder blouse and a soft peach palette. The light, dewy makeup with waves makes it an easy-breezy look to replicate for the next wedding you attend!
A refreshing lime coloured lehenga with white detailing makes for a pretty & delicate outfit.
The brothers can easily steal from this classic black bandhgala ensemble – place a bright pocket square, add tan shoes and you’re set! You can also consider adding a rhinestone embroidered motif (or a basic pin) to add on to the look.
The ethereal beauty draped a Tarun Tahiliani sari (with Zardozi borders) over a tulle blouse that had some gorgeous detailing on it.
This one’s for the crowd that’s always up for some mischief – friends of the groom or bride. A simple dark grey suit in a slim fit, with a slim tie, reminiscent of what he wore to his friend’s Cocktail party in Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani.
Post her own beautiful wedding to Zaheer Khan, Sagarika dressed up in a grey & maroon Anju Modi lehenga with a peplum jacket style blouse.
