The After Holi- Making Cleaning Up Easy

3 min read

Bura na mano Holi hai!

However identifiable the festival of colours is with this line, we all know that the after effects may not be that pleasant. Even if you take the precautions needed to make the after Holi comfortable, that is, use organic colours, take the measures to prepare for the colour fest and even keep washing up regularly- there will still be some damage that your skin and hair will bear.

So how do you minimise the damage and let Holi be your favourite festival evermore? We will let you know:

Be gentle to your skin

Assuming that you have applied oil before playing Holi, you will not have a ready tough time cleaning after. In case the colours are too stubborn, do not rub your skin too hard. Also, use a nice deep cleanser for removing the colours. If the cleanser also doesn’t do much to some parts of the skin where the colours may show, use a lemon and rub it on the area of colour. Let it soak a while, and then wash it off with the cleanser.

Sun burn

Applying sun screen is a good idea before Holi. But the combination of oil and sun screen can still cause some sun burn. After you wash up, use aloe vera gel on the affected areas and gently rub it on the skin. Aloe vera gel can also be used on your hair post wash up.

Before wash up

Wash your hands, feet and face with just lukewarm water. Dip your hands and feet in hydrogen peroxide and rose water for 15 minutes. Apply olive oil on your face and gently wipe off the colours with cotton.

Washing up

Using cold water may not be a good idea after the weather you have played the festival in. Your skin is already dry from playing with harsh colours, so using hot water is also a bad idea as it tends to make your skin and hair drier. Instead, use lukewarm water and apply glycerin on the exposed areas (hands, neck, face and feet).

Use home made remedies to remove any colour left. Sandalwood, turmeric, curd and besan are great when it comes to washing up sensitive areas of your skin.

Hair care

Apply the shampoo that you use and form a rich lather. Leave it in your hair for 10 minutes after that. Use a deep conditioner to clean your hair after that. Apply the apple cider vinegar routine on your hair. This routine involves mixing one small cup of ACV in 2 mugs of water and add just 2 drops of an essential oil (lavender, lemon etc) to it. After rinsing your hair well in ACV, wash thoroughly with water. Oil your hair with olive oil even after wash up to lock in the moisture.

Get pampered

Indulge yourself in a full body massage after all the cleaning up. It not just relaxes you, but also ensures that your body rids itself of all harmful toxins after playing with harsh colours and with sun exposure.
