Coconut oil is an age-old remedy for smoother and healthier skin. But, does it suit all skin types and is there a correct way of using it? Let us find out.
It is very easy to use this oil for your face to enjoy its several benefits. Listed below are a few ways you can use it for your face, and some don’ts to keep in mind when doing the same:
Apply a small amount of warm coconut oil on your skin and massage it around in circles. Until the skin completely absorbs it,you must massage this oil into your skin. Make sure that you apply only as much as is absorbed by the skin. Do not overuse coconut oil in a way that it leaves a thick film over your skin.
Mix sugar and coconut oil or salt and coconut oil to make a natural body scrub. You can massage it over your face and body to remove any dry and dead skin. Once you have scrubbed your skin, let it settle for a few minutes and then wipe it off with a damp towel. It is also an excellent remedy to remove any dark patches on your knees and elbows to keep your skin glowing and radiant.
Apply a small amount of coconut oil on a cotton ball. Then wipe your skin with it until the makeup is removed. It would help if you make sure that any residual oil on the skin has been wiped off completely to prevent clogging of pores.
Mix in a few drops of vitamin E oil with a tablespoon of coconut oil and apply it on your face. Please leave it in for 15-20 minutes. Then, wash it off with warm water. Dab your skin dry. This mask removes eye bags, prevents acne and even reduces the chances of wrinkles on your skin.
Coconut oil is popular for its moisturizing effects on the skin. It contains linoleic acid and lauric acid that help soothe the skin. They also work as anti-microbials to reduce any infections. Coconut oil contains vitamin E and several other nutrients that are ideal for your skin.

Individuals who are acne-prone, have oily skin should avoid using coconut oil. Contrary to popular belief, coconut oil is not absorbed by the pores of the skin easily as it is heavy. Hence it is harder to remove from the skin. This clogs the pores and may lead to issues like acne, especially in case of individuals with oily skin.
Instead, it is a good idea to use this oil as a makeup remover and as a part of your daily skincare routine. Applying coconut oil after moisturizing is a great way to retain the moisture in your skin for longer.
